Guy Harvey

Guy harvey was born on September 16, 1955 in  Lippspringe, Germany and is a 10 th generation Jamaican of English heritage. In 1963, while he was in boarding school, he started to regularly draw wildlife of native Jamaica. He graduated from the University of West Indies with a Ph. D. in Marine Biology, then became a full- time professor at UWI. In 1986, he debuts his artwork at the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show, his artwork was sold out by the end of the show. Then, he quits his job and starts to paint full- time. 

 

Guy harvey is an artists, biologists, anglers, conservationist and explorer, he uses his skills to create wildlife artwork with authenticity. He has a wide range of artwork that includes photography, paintings of marine life. He is a representative of Jamaica’s international game fish association and is an IGFA Trustee. In 1999, he establishes the “Guy Harvey Research Institute” and became a worldwide leader in shark and billfish conservation research. Over the years, he has become a popular artist among sport fishermen and marine life enthusiasts.

 

He correlates to our art gallery because his artwork is focused on bringing undersea world to  everyday life and on helping people to better appreciate our marine environment. Most of his proceeds from his artwork and merchandise to conduct research necessary to effectively conserve our ocean resources. 

 

In his artwork, he depicts the images of Jamaican marine life and warm water marine sport fishes. For his paintings, he uses water- color, oil and acrylic which are composed of water- color paper, canvases, and wall murals. He captures the essence of freshwater creatures and saltwater environments. In most of his canvases, he depicts ocean life without plastic and trash surrounding the creatures and shows the beauty of the underwater environment.
